Mrs. Entwistle & Mr. Bard's third-grade classes combined their knowledge of animal adaptations with coding to simulate an owl's keen eyesight.
The project involved utilizing the light sensor feature of Microbits – pocket-sized programmable computers – to simulate the behavior of an owl's eye. As darkness descended upon the classroom, the LED lights embedded within the Microbits would dynamically expand, mimicking the owl's ability to dilate its pupils in low-light conditions to hunt for their food.
Mrs. Blackwell assisted the students with their programs to help them adjust parameters to ensure a seamless transition between light and dark environments, much like the adaptation observed in owls.
