The Mount Markham High School Drama Club is excited to present their upcoming performance of "The Play That Goes Wrong" on Friday, December 9th and Saturday, December 10th! Both performances are at 7:00 pm in the Mount Markham High School Auditorium. Tickets can be purchased at the door and are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and students and $25 for family. “Break a leg!” takes on a whole new meaning for a woefully misguided troupe of players at the Cornley University Society’s opening night performance of The Murder at Haversham Manor. An unconscious leading lady, a corpse who can’t play dead, a ruffled detective, and a word-mangling butler (among others) must battle against technical gaffes, forgotten lines and sabotaging scenery in a quest to arrive all in one piece at the final curtain call. Part Monty Python, part Sherlock Holmes, all mayhem, this 1920s whodunit is disastrously delightful.

Staff Shout-Out: Janet Crim, quote reads: "When you are going to school for teaching, there should be a required class called, 'How to Fix the Copier 101.' If this was a class, then Janet could be the professor! Anytime there is a jam, toner that needs changing, or just paper that needs to be filled…Janet is there! In the hustle and bustle of the school day, it can go overlooked how many times Janet saves the day by fixing the copier. She so selflessly gives of her free time to help any co-worker in need. If you’ve ever jammed the copier, you know how frustrating it can be when it doesn’t work. However, Janet’s helpful attitude can instantly put your mind at ease because you know she will do everything in her power to ease your frustration and fix that machine. Thanks for being the Middle School’s Copier Guru!" Photo of Janet Crim

Staff Shout-Out: Nicolette Burgess, quote reads: ""I am absolutely blown away by the compassion, understanding and excitement I received from my child's fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Burgess, during a parent-teacher conference. I raised a few concerns regarding my child, and Mrs. Burgess took notes and told me she would follow up with my child with these things to make sure he was comfortable at school. My child is excelling in the fifth grade, and I am positive it is from the supportive and caring fifth grade staff. I am looking forward to what else this year has to offer to my child."" Mr. Mosny's English 10 Honors class went on a tour of Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute as part of a unit where students make observations of art pieces and use those observations to interpret the meaning of the piece. During this trip, students were able to view Thomas Cole's Voyage of Life mural series, which they are using for a class assignment analyzing visual symbolism and a model Regents Task 3 analysis essay.

From October 24 - 28, Mount Markham High School students and staff participated in Red Ribbon Week! The 2022 theme was "Celebrate Life. Live Drug Free," and activities were coordinated through Heather Maley, Prevention Services Coordinator with the Catholic Charities of Herkimer County/Herkimer County Prevention Council. Students in Mrs. Moore's health classes held a poster contest. Each student was very creative and expressed ways to celebrate the theme. Students also signed the Red Ribbon Pledge: to grow up safe, healthy and drug free by understanding the dangers of drug use and abuse, to respect themselves and be drug free and to spread the word to family and friends about the importance of being healthy and drug free. SADD provided encouraging announcements each morning and students also sported fun mustaches provided by SADD with the declaration "I 'mustache' you not to do drugs." On Wednesday, all staff and students were encouraged to wear RED to demonstrate their commitment to a drug-free lifestyle.
