At Mount Markham Elementary School, some of our students are participating in an after-school music program on Tuesdays and Thursdays! Under the direction of Mrs. Winkler, students have been practicing cardio and bucket drumming, giving them the chance to work together and improve their ability to count music. Stay on the lookout for more to come about this fun program!

Mount Markham Central School District; Staff Shout-Out; Alan Bard; Alan's Nominator wrote: "Alan Bard was one of the panelists for our RIC CBT Q&A Panel for Teachers. I was so happy when I initially asked if he would be willing to participate that he immediately said yes without hesitation. Alan did an outstanding job sharing how he prepares his students for CBT, his thoughts on the implementation, and classroom practices. I'm so grateful to be working with Alan. His willingness to share his experiences and knowledge with others is wonderful to see."; photo of Alan Bard

Mount Markham Elementary held numerous bonding events throughout December, using the RCA House System! Earlier this month, students of the same house traveled to a different classroom in the school to do crafts, have a snack and strengthen friendships with other students and staff members in that house. Students made beaded ornaments and paper chains in their house colors. The event was a raving success; many teachers were very impressed with how well the older students modeled good behavior and helped the younger students in their group with their crafts! Later in December, Mount Markham Elementary held a House Assembly. Our third and fourth-grade chorus performed their winter concert and the whole school enjoyed a holiday sing-along. Congratulations to Isibindi, the House of Courage, for being December's winning house!

Knowing that the needs of our students and their families may still be present over the break, we want to make sure that our community knows that, while the school is closed, Connected Community Schools is still working and able to connect with families to meet their needs. Each building will have a site coordinator on-site over the break. Site coordinators are not working on 12/23, 12/26 and 1/2. On-call CCS staff will be available 24/7.

The Mount Markham High School Drama Club is excited to present their upcoming performance of "The Play That Goes Wrong" on Friday, December 9th and Saturday, December 10th! Both performances are at 7:00 pm in the Mount Markham High School Auditorium. Tickets can be purchased at the door and are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and students and $25 for family. “Break a leg!” takes on a whole new meaning for a woefully misguided troupe of players at the Cornley University Society’s opening night performance of The Murder at Haversham Manor. An unconscious leading lady, a corpse who can’t play dead, a ruffled detective, and a word-mangling butler (among others) must battle against technical gaffes, forgotten lines and sabotaging scenery in a quest to arrive all in one piece at the final curtain call. Part Monty Python, part Sherlock Holmes, all mayhem, this 1920s whodunit is disastrously delightful.
