Seniors Awarded Seal of Biliteracy 2026

The World Language Department at Mount Markham CSD is pleased to announce that Esther Brutsky, Alexandria Graziano, Owen Jones, and Ayva Kantor have completed the requirements to earn the New York State Seal of Biliteracy. This honor is awarded to students who demonstrate an Intermediate High or greater level of competency in two languages. The four students completed a five-minute presentation about a topic of their choosing, were interviewed about their personal lives and their project, completed research for the project, submitted article reviews, and wrote an essay discussing a cultural aspect of their project topic. Their work was reviewed by the Committee on the Seal of Biliteracy, which determined they were deserving of this high honor. They will be presented with medals to wear at graduation, and a special seal will be placed on their high school diplomas.

Esther successfully communicated in both English and Spanish, earning an Advanced Low competency on her project titled “How does the community or location of a school or university dictate how an adolescent is educated?” She is the daughter of Vladimir and Yekaterina Brutsky of Frankfort. Esther plans to attend MVCC after graduation, where she will major in Business Administration.

Ayva successfully communicated in both English and French, earning an Advanced Low competency on her project, “How does the celebration of culture and tradition unite the people of Quebec?” She is the daughter of Renee Holmes of West Winfield. Ayva will attend Nazareth University after graduation, where she plans to major in Nursing.

Alexandria successfully communicated in both English and French, achieving an Intermediate High competency on her project, “How did the Renaissance affect France’s architecture?” She is the daughter of Todd and Megan Graziano of Litchfield. Alexandria will attend the University at Albany, where she plans to major in Nursing.

Owen successfully communicated in both English and Spanish, earning an Intermediate High competency on his project, “How have legends and folklore transformed today’s culture in Spanish-speaking countries?” He is the son of Daniel and Anne-Marie Jones of West Winfield. Owen will attend SUNY Geneseo after graduation, where he plans to major in Accounting.

Congratulations!
