The Oneida-Madison-Herkimer Counties School Boards Institute recently presented its 2025 Student Achievement Awards and Distinguished Service Awards to students and school officials in the region. The Student Achievement Awards are presented to high-school juniors who have demonstrated a positive attitude, which reflects initiative, a sense of responsibility and an ability to interact with others, including peers, faculty and the community.
Owen Jones has been honored with the Student Achievement Award for his strong academic performance, character, and leadership skills. He is an exemplary student who constantly strives for excellence, taking multiple AP and college-level courses. Owen is also a dedicated athlete, serving as captain of three varsity sports at Mount Markham, including soccer, basketball, and baseball. He is also involved in his local church, works part-time, and teaches young children how to golf.
“Owen leads by example with quiet humility in the classroom and on the field. He knows how to take initiative and be responsible, and others respond to his positive, thoughtful nature,” said his nominator, Marie Kenyon. Owen’s dedication to his education and community, along with his exceptional character, make him truly deserving of this recognition.
