Dear Members of the Mt. Markham Community,
As part of our ongoing commitment to the safety and well-being of our students and staff, we recently completed a second, focused round of water quality testing at our school facilities. This follow-up testing targeted outlets that showed elevated lead levels during the initial round of sampling.
We are writing to share those results and outline the immediate steps we are taking.
The second round of testing confirmed that nine specific water outlets across the district continue to show lead levels above the required threshold.
Effective immediately, we are implementing the following measures:
Immediate Filter Replacement: We have placed an immediate order for new filters and will be replacing the filters on all nine affected outlets. This work is scheduled to be completed by Oct. 31.
Proper Notification and Out-of-Service Status: Until these new filters are installed and subsequent successful testing confirms the water is safe, all nine affected outlets have been clearly marked with proper signage indicating they are out of service for drinking.
Availability of Safe Water: Safe and tested drinking water sources remain available throughout our buildings.
The safety of our school community is our highest priority, and we are working diligently to rectify this issue completely and quickly.
If you have any questions regarding these findings or our remediation process, please contact my office at (315) 822 - 6162.
Sincerely,
Lauren Crisman
Superintendent of Schools
