Mount Markham CSD is proud to announce that the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) has recognized Mount Markham Senior High School as a “School of Excellence” for the 2022-2023 school year.
Mount Markham Senior High School is one of only 34 schools in Section III that were selected for this award this year. This year is the first time Mount Markham Senior High School has been recognized as an NYSPHSAA School of Excellence; the School of Excellence Award began in 2016-2017.
To earn the School of Excellence Award, 75% of a school’s varsity teams must be recognized as Scholar-Athlete teams. To receive Scholar-Athlete team recognition, the team’s average GPA must be greater than or equal to 90 for 75% of the roster. At Mount Markham Senior High School, 15 out of 20 varsity teams were recognized as Scholar-Athlete teams.
Over the 2022-2023 school year, the following Mount Markham Senior High School varsity teams received the Scholar-Athlete team recognition: Boys Cross Country, Boys Soccer, Field Hockey, Girls Soccer, Boys Basketball, Boys Indoor Track/Field, Girls Basketball, Girls Indoor Track/Field, Girls Volleyball, Baseball, Boys Golf, Boys Outdoor Track/Field, Boys Tennis, Girls Outdoor Track/Field and Softball.
Athletic Director Phillip Keida said this achievement is representative of efforts by the school district to develop well-rounded students.
“This is an example of the hard work students put in in both the classroom and the athletic field, and a testament to the coaches reinforcing academics as a high priority,” Keida said.
