    Dear Parents:

My name is Mr. Bard and I am your child's third grade teacher this year. As we begin the school year, I want to share some information with you and ask some things of you. Our schedule again this year will be "1-6" days in place of Monday- Friday.  Mr. Hawes is the physical education teacher on days 1,3, and 5 from 9:20-10:00. Sneakers must be worn for this class. Mrs. McClave is the art teacher on day 4 from 9:20-10:00. Miss Harvey is the music teacher on day 2 from 9:20-10:00. Library is on day 2 from 1:40-2:20. Third graders are encouraged to join chorus once a week for thirty minutes. This year, chorus is on Wednesdays.

There are 15 students in our class. We will have snack every morning. Children are encouraged to practice good nutrition by having a healthy snack every day - fruit, celery, carrot sticks, cheese and crackers, etc. Please let me know in advance if you are sending a special treat for the whole class to celebrate your child's birthday. Lunch is from 11:50-12:20 everyday and recess is from 12:30-1:00 everyday. The school lunch is $2.00 each day ($.25 reduced fee) or $10.00 weekly and ice cream is $.75. The breakfast program will begin at 8:00 am this year, and the cost is $.75 each day. If your child receives free or reduced lunch, this also applies for breakfast. This program money is paid to the cafeteria and not sent to me. If you like, you can send a larger check to school as all breakfast/lunch money is on the computer.

Please refer to the letter I wrote to your child in August to be sure that the proper school supplies are being sent to school. Always label your child's supplies and clothing when possible. During winter months we will continue to enjoy outside recess, so send snow pants at that time. Generally, homework will be given Monday-Thursday nights only for no more than 30 minutes. If you need to pick up your child from class (i.e. for a doctor's appointment), please send a note to me. The procedure is for you to go to the office, the office will call the classroom and your child will be sent to the office. If your child is going home on a bus different from the normal routine, please send me a note with full details (include name of person's house where your child is going, the address, and the bus route if you know it). I look forward to working with your child and meeting you. Appointments are necessary to visit the classroom. If you have any questions or concerns, please send a note or call the school at 822-2840.

    Sincerely,

    Mr. Bard
