Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can you give me information about tests?

    Posted by:

Tests are typically given when a module (topic/unit) is finished.  Once the students gets the graded test back, they get one chance to make corrections.  They can and should make all efforts to correct the errors.  They will get half credit for their corrections.

  • How do you study for math?

    Posted by:

To study for math block off the answers to the math questions that were done in class or for homework and do them on a separate sheet of paper.  Then compare your answers to your notes.

  • What is a homework check?

    Posted by:

Homework checks are random.  I will check to see who did their homework (logical answers, NOT nonsense, with work shown).  Homework checks are for days that we go over the homework during class and therefore, the students can NOT make them up. Absences are not counted against them.

  • What is the difference between Common Core and the Modules?

    Posted by:

Common Core is basically the standards that we are teaching the students in order for our students to be college and career ready.  The Modules are lessons that were prepared under EngageNY.org to create deeper thinking in our students.  I use some of these lessons but they are mostly a guide for my teaching.

  • What is a Math Lab?

    Posted by:

Math Lab is different for different students.  For students that need extra help, it is reteaching and additional practice.  For students that have the concepts, it will be examples to challenge them.

  • How can I do better in math?

    Posted by:

There are many things to do to help yourself with math.

    1.  Read the question fully.  Then if needed, break it down sentence by sentence.

    2.  Practice you math facts (additon, subtraction, multiplication, and divison)

    3.  Take notes in class (these will help you with your homework)

    4.  Go over your notes 5-10 minutes nightly.

    5.  Do your homework (your lessons from the day will help you with your homework).

    6.  Ask questions as they come up- don't wait.

    7.  Make corrections on all of your work (you learn from your mistakes).

    8.  Show all of your work (this way I can see where you are going wrong)

    9.  Try!
