Welcome Parents and Caretakers!

You play a critical role in the healthy language development of your children- from before they are born all the way through high school graduation. On this page we offer ideas about what you can do to support them.

From the Observer-Dispatch "Ask An Educator" article:

Writing Skills

Question: How can I help improve my child's writing?

Answer:   Janet Tillapaugh, English Teacher at Mt. Markham HS responds:

  • Parents need to encourage their children to read as often as possible.
  • Make time for reading every day, she says.
  • Reading frequently will improve your child's vocabulary, which will then improve writing skills, she said.

Mrs. Tillapaugh is talking about students of every age- from our youngest children to our High School graduates. If every student, in every grade read a book or article they chose for as little as 10-15 minutes every day, IMAGINE the difference it would make!

Find time every day to sit down with a book or magazine article you enjoy and READ!
