Welcome to the 2010-11 school year. We usher in a new school year at a time of great challenges in education.
The capacity for the state of New York to fund education as has been its tradition is no longer the case. Seeking creative ways to provide our students the opportunities they have had will take everyone's best efforts.
At a time when dramatic changes in teaching and learning expectations set higher standards, we face a unique opportunity, as do all schools across the Empire state. Do more with less.
While perhaps a seemingly daunting task, the faculty and staff at Mt. Markham stand ready and have already begun that work.
Much like a construction project, a lot of the initial work takes place in the infrastructure. It's not glamorous or flashy, rather difficult work, redefining curriculum and instructional practices.
Throughout the process students benefit from the vitality, rigor, and enthusiasm this development creates. Working to have students reach higher standards will require our collective best efforts. We are excited about the work that lies ahead and ask you to join us in reaching these goals.
We hope to see you on campus supporting our students in their efforts in the classroom, athletic fields, theatre, and any of the numerous clubs and activites that fill their days.
Casey Barduhn, Superintendent |
