Mount Markham Elementary School
Curriculum and Assessments |
The teachers at Mount Markham Elementary School have spent the last several years developing curriculum materials that align to the New York State standards. The curriculum has been completed for all four core subjects (ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies) as well as in the area of Technology. If you would like to see the specific curriculum for any particular grade level, please contact a teacher at that grade level or the school office. We hope to have the elementary curriculum online in the near future. The third and fourth grades are important years for assessments. There are two New York State assessments given during third grade and 3 NYS assessments given during fourth grade. In January, the English/Language Arts assessment is given in third and fourth grades. In March, the Math assessment is given in third and fourth grades. In May, the Science assessment is given in fourth grade. Local assessments are given in each subject at the kindergarten through fourth grade levels. In October and in May, the Early Literacy Profile assesses the students' progress in the areas of reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The Effective Communicator writing assessments are given four times a year in grades K-4. Math assessments are given throughout the year in grades K-4. These math assessments are designed to be similar to the New York State math assessments given in grades three and four. Science and social studies assessments are also given throughout the school year. Again, these assessments are designed to be smilar to the New Your State assessments that will be given in 4th and 5th grade. |
