Skylark by Patricia MacLachlan
This book is a sequel to Sarah, Plain and Tall.

When a drought hits the prairie, Sarah takes Anna and her brother, Caleb, to visit her first home in Maine while their father, Jacob, stays behind to save the farm.
Will they all be together again as a family on the prairie?

Let's "book talk" about this book here on our Skylark blog. Share your ideas, images, questions and connections with each other and the Literacy Coach.  Remember you can (and should!) "talk" with anyone who has left a comment.  It's ok to disagree with an idea, but do it nicely and support your comments with reasons (use your own experience or what the author says in the book).  When you agree with a comment, it's more interesting to say something more than, "I agree".  Add something new to the discussion.

Just click on Post Comment, type what you want to say,  then click Done.  Be patient.  It takes a little while for your comment to appear on the blog. Comment as often as you have something new to say about the book or someone else's response.

Let's start blogging about Skylark!

Hello Mrs. Burns?????

Hi, Readers!

I enjoyed this book, Skylark, by Patricia MacLachlan. She's a good writer because when I read her stories I create strong images in my imagination.  Sometimes the images are pictures of places in the book.  On page 89, at the beginning of Chapter 14, Ms. MacLachlan's words describing the August sunrise are wonderful.  She says, "The August sun rose red, then turned gold.  It touched the flowers of the aunts' gardens, the beds of late roses and nasturtiums and asters.  Geese flew in, sitting calmly on the water.  A boat with two masts and a tall sail slipped by."

I can almost smell the salt in the air.  No wonder Sarah loved this place!  Now I have a little better idea of how much she must love Anna and Caleb and their dad.....she must love them a lot if she's willing to leave a place as beautiful as the ocean!

I'm not sure if you read Skylark. I love it. Don't you like it?
Did you like Skylark I did.I am on chapter 3
I think Sara Plain and Tall was a good book as well as Skylark because they're exciting! I thought Skylark was the best out of the two books because Sara had a baby,Papa and Sara got maired, and the most exiting part was the drout! It was exiting because it got so dry Sara, anna, and Caleb went to Maine.
I love visiting the ocean in Maine. I wondered if Sarah, Anna and Caleb would ever go back to the prairie. I was a little worried that the drought would never end and they would have to give up the farm. I still think it's going to be hard for them when they return.
Did you like it when Sarah was having a baby. Were you sad when the cat died.
Skylark is exciting, the movie is very good. Could you come and watch sometime. In the moivie Mattie the cat dies Sarah is upset and runs to the barn sits there all day sad.The next day Sarah was helping with the roof when a storm comes and a thing falls down it almost hits Sarah Anna runs out Sarah grabs her and said do you know were Seal is? No. Sarah Said I knew I shouldn't have come here! Then, she said I didn't mean that. Anna said yes you did!
Were you sad when mattie the cat died?I was. Were you scared when Seal was lost? In Skylark did you know why poppa went to main?Idid. It was because it rained and he went to get Anna and Caleb and to tell Sarah.
My favorite part in Sara Plan And Tall was when the storm came because I like excitment.I thought it was sad when Mattie died, did you?
Were you sad when Seal was lost in the storm.
I feel so bad for Sarah because her cat Seal died, do you? Once there was a storm at my dads house!
Did you see the movie of Shara plain a tall is it sooooooooooooooooo sad.
Dear, Mrs. burns did you like the iditorod?

Hi! You're back at blogging! I'm so glad to see you. You are doing such a great job talking about this story. I like the connections you are making to the events that have happened in your own life.
There are some sad parts to this story, aren't there? I even think it's sad when Sarah leaves her family back in Maine. I have always lived close to my family and it would be hard to be so far away.
I really like the aunts in Maine!
Keep blogging! And keep reading!!
